McWane Ductile Safety Initiative Creates Engagement, Personal Pride
McWane Ductile’s New Jersey facility has initiated an Eagle Hardhat program in which team members can earn and maintain a specially branded hardhat through personal safety excellence.
Ongoing dedication is built into the process, according to McWane Director of Corporate Communications Laura Clark. Safety Committee members who gain a minimum of five safety points each month for three consecutive months can obtain an eagle hardhat and must continue to maintain five points per month to keep the coveted wearable. Points can be earned through participating in a monthly supervisor safety inspection, being a member of a safety team, auditing or helping create or revise a JSA, leading a toolbox training session, and more.
“This process allows each employee to become more involved in safety throughout the plant and contribute to the positive safety culture at McWane Ductile,” said Clark.
“But everything doesn’t always need to be serious regarding safety––there are still ways to have fun,” she added. “At McWane Ductile – New Jersey, winners of the coveted Golden Pig Awards were celebrated for their good housekeeping and organization. The friendly competition includes departments across the foundry, warehouses, and offices. There are bragging rights, catered lunch, gift cards, and a sweet trophy on the line.”
