New Castle celebrates two years of safety success
AFS Corporate Member Grede reported its New Castle, Indiana, location celebrated two years of continuous work without a lost time incident.
“This achievement is a testament to our employees’ commitment to working safely every day,” said New Castle General Manager Mark Brock. “Their dedication to following proper safety procedures, looking out for each other, and maintaining a robust safety culture has made this milestone possible. This culture inspires us to strive for even greater safety achievements.”
Grede New Castle reviews safety items daily in their War Room meeting. Employees cover safety topics in pre-shift meetings, supervisors check in with each employee twice daily to ensure they work safely, and all managers complete weekly safety observations.
Grede New Castle achieved two years of zero lost time incidents on July 29, 2024. They also reached 1 million hours without a lost-time incident on Dec. 13, 2023. To celebrate the achievements, the company held all-employee picnic and gave everyone a t-shirt and backpack cooler to recognize this milestone.
“The best safety cultures are created when our team members do the right things for themselves and each other when no one’s looking,” said CEO Cary Wood. “Nothing we do is more important than keeping each other safe. New Castle has worked for years keeping each other safe–– it’s what we want for all our plants and locations.”
Brock added, “We aren’t going to stop here. We aren’t going to lower any of our standards. Our next goal is 2 million incident-free hours.”
